The book club is for students that enjoy reading. We meet after school to share books, authors and to discuss a book that was chosen and read by the group the previous month. We have a snack and a book discussion. "Readers are lucky - they will never be bored or lonely." Natalie Babbit |

Business Professionals of America |

Meetings are once a month on Tuesday from October to February. State Competition is in February. |
Business Professionals of America provides middle school students the opportunity to apply acquired skills while participating in business-related competitive events. BPA competitions place emphasis on computer skills, teamwork, research, and presentation. Students may compete at both the state and national levels. |
Open to 7th and 8th graders. Sign ups are during October. Students should listen for announcements about where, when, and how to sign up. |

Drama |

Open to all Skyline students. Auditions are held in January. Practices are Monday - Thursday starting in February until the show in April. |
Skyline's drama production is a fun filled event! Students may be involved as cast members or production staff. Cast are the dedicated actors, actresses, dancers, and singers. Production Staff are students that work behind the scenes instead of being in the spotlight. They make sure sets are done, lights and sound are properly operating, characters have costumes, props, and make-up, and that the tickets get sold. After many months of hard work, the play comes together. |
In January, students should sign up in the hallway outside the cafeteria. Students should listen for announcements about how, when, & where. |

Jaguar Journal |

Meetings are held after school from September to March 2:30 to 4:00 as needed. All grade levels may participate. |
The Jaguar Journal is a student newspaper written by and for the students. Student reporters highlight important Skyline events; feature sports, band, and chorus news; present staff and student interviews; and provide the latest and greatest movie, song and video game reviews. Letters to the editor, comics, and an advice column are also included in the paper. |
Students who are interested in being part of the Jaguar Journal staff should speak with Mrs. Faccenda in room 108. |

Juggling Club |

September to October meetings every Tuesday after school from 2:30-4:00 in the lower parking lot. |
The club will be taught by Matt Gifford, an 8th grader at Skyline, who is a proficient juggler. The club will range from anyone who has never juggled before to students that have juggled for a number of years. |

Practices and competitions are Mondays after school from October through February with 4 competitions against other schools. |
Math League is an organization sponsored by the Delaware Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Students work with a coach to practice challenging mathematical problems. Winners of the local competition travel to Dover for the state tournament. |
Open to 7th and 8th graders with sign ups in September. Register with your math teacher. |

National Junior Honor Society |

Meetings are held during 8th grade lunch and after school as needed |
Students in NJHS have been recognized for outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and citizenship. Members conduct service activities such as the Thanksgiving Food Drive, winter toy drive, and fundraising collection for children with cancer. They also sponsor the Winter Ball. |
7th graders are nominated based on the NJHS criteria for membership in 8th grade. |

Numerix Bee |

Annual competition in April. Practices after school from March to April. |
Numerix is an online computer program that incorporates mental math and fluency with multi-step problem solving. Students practice in the school’s computer lab to compete against others in their grade for a chance to participate in the tournament where they will battle against students from other middle schools for medals or trophies. |
Sign-ups will be in early March. Register though any math teacher. |

Odyssey of the Mind |

Teams meet once a week from September to the March competion. Closer to the competion, meeting may be more frequent. |
Odyssey of the Mind a creative problem solving challenge. Teams of students work with volunteer parent coaches to solve one long term problem and learn to work together for short term "spontaneous" problems. Challenges involve combinations of writing skits, building, making costumes, and lots of far out solutions. |
Informational meeting is held in September. Look for the date and time at the Open House and listen to morning announcements. |
Meeting times are determined by the parents and coaches. |

Science Olympiad |

Science Olympiad meets on Thursday each week from January to March. Space is limited to fifteen students. |
Science Olympiad is an international non-profit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers. Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of team events. Please refer to Olympiad.k12.de.us for additional information. |

Skyline Chorale |

The Chorale meets after school on Tuesdays throughout the year. You must be in 7th or 8th grade chorus to audition. |
The Skyline Chorale is the select, auditioned vocal ensemble at Skyline. This touring group represents the best of the vocal department, and can found performing at Skyline, in the community, and at competitions around the country. Solar Car Club |

The Skyline Solar Car Club meets after school on Mondays starting in March. |
Members of this club design, build, and race small vehicles using solar energy. The club competes in the Junior Solar Sprint sponsored by the Department of Energy. Skyline's Club has been successful at both the state and regional competitions. |

Stock Market Club |

This Club meets every Tuesday afternoon for 12 weeks during the Fall competition, and for 12 weeks during the Spring Competition in Computer Lab # 111. |
Skyline’s Stock Market Club members have won numerous state-wide competitions, as well as being twice named National Champions. We have been recognized by Delaware Today, The Wall Street Journal, and appeared live on the CNN Morning Show. This game involves students investing a virtual $100,000 of stocks and mutual funds from companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange, or NASDAQ. Students compete against schools throughout the State. |

The Yearbook Committee meets once a week from January through March. |
Skyline Yearbook Club is responsible for organizing photographs, proofing names, checking that all sports and clubs are included and assisting with distribution in June. |
